High School Highlights
The Upper School consists of the ninth through twelfth grades. Small classes at this level continue to provide the personal attention to which the students in both the Elementary and Prep Programs have grown accustomed. Blessed Sacrament Huguenot is a college-preparatory school and expects each student to complete the Advanced Studies Diploma as outlined by the Commonwealth of Virginia. This includes a traditional offering of English, history, mathematics, science, foreign language, religion and physical education. As part of our college preparatory program, students in grades 9 - 12 complete a seminar program with classes in Rhetoric I, Rhetoric II, SAT Prep, and College Seminar. A few electives are available in the 11th and 12th Grades, including such courses as journalism, Honors Physics, anatomy & physiology, and Discrete Math. The academic day consists of six class periods. The seventh period is a designated time for students to receive tutorial help from their subject teachers, report to academic or varsity team study halls, participate in club activities, and for JV team sports to begin practice. Upper School students are required to participate in six trimesters of team sports over the course of 9th through 12th Grades to satisfy the Physical Education requirement of the Virginia diploma. Students in the Upper School participate in a variety of activities, including the Student Government, the Honor Council, the Scholastic Bowl Team, Drama, Forensics, clubs, and a required school and community service program. Competitive inter-scholastic sports are an integral part of the life of the school and engender enthusiasm and school spirit. Service Requirement Blessed Sacrament Huguenot believes that service to the school and community is an integral part of the education of the total being. To that end, all students are involved in service projects throughout their years at BSH. Students in 9th through 12th grades are required to give six hours of service to the school annually. In addition, during the junior year, each student is required to give 30 hours of service to the community through an approved outreach project orchestrated by the administration.
