Prep School Highlights

The Prep School at Blessed Sacrament Huguenot encompasses the Sixth through Eighth Grades.  This program recognizes the challenging and changing nature of students in these grades.  In addition, the focus on academic excellence, the encouragement of self-esteem, and the providing of a caring and nurturing environment are hallmarks of the Prep program.
Students in the Prep School change classes throughout the day.  A core curriculum of college-preparatory classes is provided in these grades.  All students take English, Literature, Mathematics, Science, History, Religion, Technology, and Physical Education.  In support of developing self-esteem, some of the classes in the Prep are single-gender classes.  In addition, students have the opportunity at the end of the academic day to visit their subject teachers for extended help and tutorial sessions.
Communication is deemed to be an extremely high priority in the Prep school.  Students are required to maintain a student planner and assignment book.  In addition, a weekly folder system ensures that parents are routinely informed of all assignments and graded work.  These communication tools serve the dual purpose of instilling responsibility in each student, while keeping parents informed of the progress of their child.
Students in the Prep participate in the Jr. Student Government Association and the Jr. National Honor Society.  Prep students also have the opportunity to participate on inter-scholastic athletic teams as well as the Upper School drama productions.
Grading System
Report cards are issued every nine weeks.  Interims are also issued in the middle of each nine weeks to students who are achieveing at a C- or below. Exams are given in grades 6 through 8.  First semester exams are held prior to Christmas vacation and second semester exams are administered at the end of the school year.
